What a room really costs per person in Andheri West, Goregaon West and Malad West

How these numbers are worked out

Rent in Mumbai is usually quoted for the whole flat, which tells you very little if you are sharing. So we show what one person pays: the monthly rent divided between everyone who will live there, including you. If a host entered the rent for one particular room, we use that figure instead.

For each area we look at flats within 1.5 km of a central point, not only flats that carry the area's name, because people search by area but sleep wherever the flat is. We show the typical rent (the middle one) and the range in which most listings fall. We leave out the very cheapest and the very dearest, since one odd listing can distort the picture.

Andheri West

Andheri West has the most flats on JoinMyFlat, spread across Lokhandwala, Versova, Four Bungalows, D.N. Nagar, Azad Nagar and Veera Desai Road. That spread is why the range is wide. A shared room in an older building a few minutes' walk from a Metro station can cost far less than a private room in a society with a gate and a lift.

The area has the Western Line at Andheri station and the Metro, which is why so many people who work in the western suburbs look here first. The price of getting that closeness is sharing. If you are used to living alone, a shared room here costs less than a one-person flat, but it is not cheap.

Goregaon West

A common belief is that going one or two stops up the line makes things much cheaper. On our current listings, that is not the case for Goregaon West. The typical shared room is close to Andheri West, and private rooms are priced similarly. If you want the saving, a few of the areas on the other side of the highway show lower numbers. Read our guide to the cheapest areas to share a flat in Mumbai.

Malad West

Malad West has only a handful of flats on JoinMyFlat today, so the numbers above can move a lot when one flat is added or removed. Treat them as a rough guide. As more hosts post in Malad West, the table will become more reliable. Where there are fewer than four flats nearby we do not show a number at all.

Why shared and private rooms are so far apart

A private room means one person has a whole room, so the rent for the flat is split among fewer people than if two or three share a room. The rent per person for a private room is therefore much higher, even though the flat is the same. When you compare two flats, compare like for like: shared with shared, private with private.

How to use these numbers

What these numbers are not

These are asking rents on flats listed on JoinMyFlat. They are not a survey of the whole city, and the number of flats in each area is still small. Prices change by the week, so the table is worked out again each time someone opens this page.

Questions people ask

How much does a shared room cost in Andheri West?

On JoinMyFlat in October 2026, the typical shared room in Andheri West works out to about ₹16,000 to ₹17,000 a month per person. Some are much cheaper and some cost more, depending on the building, the floor and how many people live there. The table above is worked out from current listings.

Why is the rent per person different from the rent of the flat?

The flat's rent is shared between everyone who lives there, including you. A flat that costs ₹60,000 with three people in it costs each person ₹20,000, before bills. That per person figure is what you actually pay, so it is what we show.

Is Goregaon West cheaper than Andheri West?

Not on the flats listed on JoinMyFlat right now. The typical shared room is about the same in both. Rent depends more on the exact building and how far it is from a station than on the name of the area.

Why are there so few flats for Malad West?

JoinMyFlat is new, and we only publish a number when there are enough flats to say something useful. We will update this page as more flats are listed.
